Enter The Gates Of Victory!

Just recently, Roma Waterman of Australia, came to conduct 2 nights of Songwriting sessions. It was a humbling and yet enjoyable experience. In this songwriting, I knew that I’ve grown as it dawned upon me that what impacts the world are songs written from the Word of God. Famous artists like Paul Baloche, Chris Tomlin wrote many songs that were inspired from the Bible itself!

As I presented 2 songs over those 2 days, I had hope to revive this big dream of mine – to be a songwriter for the nations. This may sound big but I believe it’s only a small part of my life and it’s in this season, I’m learning to walk into this season and enter the gates of victory for my life and for my involvement in church and the marketplace. God has been faithful in my entire journey and now, I’ve established many networks and linkups and I believe God is gonna partner with me as I learn to lean on Him.

Enter the gates of Victory -> Roma said that “Open the gates of Victory/Heaven” is already done in reality as we often ask for Open Heavens, Open doors/gates – they are already opened! Thus, the lyrics and title of the song is changed to “Enter The Gates Of Victory”. I’ve shared the story of how this song was derived and you can refer to it.

There is a greater freedom in executing the song after Roma tweaked my song and I love the way she handled my song. Songwriting is about humility. Humble yourself to ask God to release the sound of heaven.

Worship Dimensions

In a fast moving world today, worship has definitely taken a totally new level/height than ever before. It was not long ago that we sing songs/hymns with simple lyrics, easy to remember, written from the Word of God. In that dimension, I would suggest that it’s like a 2D/2-dimensional image.

As an 3D object, you can see a pen/pencil as a round and rectangular object or cylindrical but in 2D, you can only it either round or rectangular at any point in time. Today, the world’s moving into 4D/4-dimensional and so forth. Worship songs have many story lines just in the verse, chorus and bridge. The focus has become diverse and songwriters need to be creative and have constant revelation of the God we know.

In my thoughts, I’m wondering if a God song will display multi-dimensional images of Christ. How will the song look like? Could it be like singing all the 9 characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit? Or could it mention His love from Genesis to Revelation?

Open The Gates Of Victory!

For the past month, I’ve attended 2 songwriting workshops. And it has been inspiring as well as a challenge to me and overcoming all the fear that I had. I started writing songs since Dec 2001. But most of the songs are kept in the secret place as they are personal ministry songs to myself.

Over the years, I’ve been writing melodies for a close friend and hardly written any lyrics. Through the COOS Songwriting Workshop organized by Pastor Christopher Ho and taught by K.C Gan, I realized that God wanted me to have that VICTORY in my life. The word Victory has been resonating since October last year when I customized my guitar. The shape of the guitar is represented by the name – Victoria (for OM/OOO size). Victoria in itself is self-explanatory. Victory is the main theme since then.

My breakthrough came when I started on writing this song “Open The Gates Of Victory”. It took me 10 days to complete the song and that’s within 2 lessons. I cannot believe the speed but God inspired me and the musical hook came into my mind and was written out.

The Lord reminded me wherever I go about having the VICTORY in my life and in others. Thus this song was birthed out from a personal worship time into the corporate worship. Though the song needs a little rework and it’ll be ready in due time, I’m excited as I believe the “Sound of Singapore” will a like a roaring lion – the Lion of Judah.
